The legislators challenged critics of the list to mobilize their allies for a parliamentary contest instead of raising objections outside the chamber.

Kenya Kwanza-affiliated Members of Parliament have pledged to approve the list of nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) once it is presented in the House.

The legislators challenged critics of the list to mobilize their allies for a parliamentary contest instead of raising objections outside the chamber.

They also took aim at Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of insincerity following his public rejection of the nominees.

The MPs were speaking during an interdenominational service and a fundraiser for churches in Nandi Hills town on Sunday.

If approved, the IEBC’s primary responsibility will be to clear the mounting backlog of by-elections, a delay that has left some constituencies without representation for more than two years.

Among the leaders in attendance were Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim, Nandi Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei, and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.

Senator Cheruiyot noted that Kalonzo had played a key role in shaping the IEBC legislation and the formation of the selection panel.

Osoro took a swipe at Kalonzo Musyoka and his allies, accusing them of being habitual critics who consistently undermine government initiatives.

He reminded them that the IEBC selection process was conducted transparently, having been gazetted and carried out through open interviews.

Osoro challenged Kalonzo’s camp to abandon what he described as divisive press briefings and instead take their message directly to the people across the country.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah echoed the criticism, accusing Kalonzo of being egocentric and deliberately standing in the way of government progress.

He noted that Kalonzo had a representative—Dr. Koki Muli—on the selection panel, and urged him to rally his team for parliamentary debates rather than media shows.

Nyakundi added that there were several pending by-elections and encouraged Kalonzo to prepare to engage in legislative processes rather than lamentations.

Meanwhile, Farouk Kibet, President Ruto’s close aide and the event’s chief guest, emphasized that the Head of State had no role in the selection process. According to him, the President only received the panel’s final report.

He further clarified that the IEBC’s mandate is limited to overseeing electoral procedures, not determining the outcomes or who ascends to various elective positions.
